題目: Ice storms: a natural disturbance in the deciduous forests of eastern North America（アイスストーム：北米東部における落葉樹林の自然 攪乱）

講演概要：Forests in eastern North America are subject to winter ice storms， supercooled rain that freezes on contact with the trees. The weight of the accumulated ice can become very great， breaking branches and even entire trees. This natural disturbance plays an important role in forest dynamics. This seminar is about the impact of the Ice Storm of 1998， the worst ice storm in recorded history. Damage to the forest and the nature of forest recovery will be discussed.
