題目:Environmental aspects of rock magnetism: Integrated magnetic screening/monitoring in different scales
(岩石磁気学的手法による環境調査: さまざまなスケールでの磁気的な概査と監視の統合的運用)
講演者:ヴィクトール・ホフマンさん(独チュービンゲン大学)

講演概要: In recent times, the need for new, fast, and cost effective environmental screening and monitoring methods has grown significantly. As diffuse pollution comes from a large number of small sources, comprising a variety of different pollutants, affecting large areas far distant from individual pollution sources, new strategies for assessing the pollution state are needed. Traditional screening and monitoring methods like geochemical analyses or biomonitoring methods generally do not allow to investigate a large number of data points within short time at reasonably low costs. Here a cost-effective, fast and easy to use screening scheme using magnetic proxy parameters for estimating and outlining the extent of pollution, in combination with traditional analysis methods at selected sites, could solve the problem. The capacity of the magnetic proxy screening/monitoring method will be demonstrated by a set of applications and case studies within various ecosystems and environments. Magnetic susceptibility screening (mapping in 2-dimensions, 2D) and profiling (3-dimensions, 3D) by using the newly developed SM400 instrument, and monitoring in real time and in situ was proposed by the MAGPROX Consortium as a new parameter for the Working Group on Monitoring within the European Union Soil Thematic Strategy in 2004. Hereby magnetic susceptibility (and other magnetic parameters) can be applied within an integrated strategy for multi purpose screening/monitoring such as
- an "alarm system" (i.e. delineating areas of potential chemical hazard) and long term monitoring of contaminated areas (e. g. chemical time bombs), or action driven
- as a "control system" (repeated screening/profiling allows monitoring in regular time events (e. g. floods, newly opened pollution sources such as motorways, power plants etc.).
- within an "Integrated scheme" involving classical as well new innovative and cost effective techniques such as biosensors or electrical sensors for in-situ detection of potentially polluted areas and toxic substances.
